Jury duty… rescheduled?

I have (had?) jury duty today.

Show up just after noon downtown. OK, cool. I’m doing my work in the morning, am just about ready to get ready to get dressed like a grown adult and head down there.

I just got an email rescheduling my service for 2 weeks from today.

Really guys? I have a super flexible job and this is absolutely no skin off my back. But there are a lot of people for whom this would be a huge inconvenience. Take off work, not get paid, just to get told, “Sorry, come back in 2 weeks?”

Piss off.

Anybody have a way to contact the people at Houston Health Department who deal with COVID vaccinations?

I got my shots earlier this year, but I need to get a replacement card – the original has a clerical error where the nurse forgot to write the date of the second shot on the card and I didn’t realize it until much later. Immtrac2 doesn’t show record of the shots according to my primary doctor. And I need the card for a work thing that’s giving me grief about it.

I’ve tried https://www.houstontx.gov/health/NewsReleases/houston-health-department-expands-COVID-19-test-sites-to-anyone-wanting-to-get-tested.html and the -4220 COVID hotline, but the person answering the phone just took my name and email/number and I never got a response back from anyone.

I’m going to try that again. But, while I do that… are there any better leads on getting to someone who can help?

Happy 832 Day

On July 13, all the OG Houstonians sit around a circle and pat themselves on the back to celebrate the city they lived in their whole lives. After all, that’s the only way they could get a 713 phone number. And since they were born and raised here, they often only see the good this city has to offer.

Today – and this post – is not for them.

Today could be said to be the 32nd day of August. It is a day of celebration. Today we celebrate surviving the worst of the summer heat that none of us transplants are and the lack of tropical weather so far.

Today is for those of us who weren’t born Houstonians, or even Texans, but got here as soon as we could. Our y’all’s might still be shaky and some of us have still not been to a rodeo. But we’re here and making it work all the same.

832 Day is a day where those of us who came from other places and have some perspective on how good Houston really is celebrates the good of where we live, while not being blind to the bad.

So, in celebration of 832 Day 2020, let’s roast our hometown with love and a local beer and have a few laughs.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot – F**k Dallas.

Happy 832 Day! Pleasedon’tbanme
