For the sake of sounding like a shill, I'll keep it short but Reggae Hut is so Houston lmao. I've been staying near the med center for a bit now, but never really explored all the dope food on Almeda. Tried Reggae for the first time couple days ago, ordered the jerk chicken and got half a friggin bird lol. Not only was it a lot, but also really delish and fresh tasting. So good I felt like I should make a quick post, thanks Reggae hut and keep it up!

It’s becoming harder to not throw in the towel https://houstonnewmedia.org/its-becoming-harder-to-not-throw-in-the-towel/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=its-becoming-harder-to-not-throw-in-the-towel Thu, 18 Feb 2021 06:55:23 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=be4fa2d760ba4ea8d2df29aa2a1cf373

For context I've been #HTownStrong since 2007, mostly loving the journey since then. I've grown to love this city for all the same reasons many of y'all probably do. Amazing cuisine, a very diverse populace and pretty solid entertainment for a mid 20s dude.

I've rode out many of the same disasters as yall through the last decade and half, culminating with Harvey as a particularly low point. With Harvey though, I was able to witness the immense collaboration, love and hospitality Texas is famous for. While many suffered immensely, at least we saw the good from helping each other through Harvey.

The Winter Shitshow of 2021 is seeming to me to not have any sort of silver lining however. It's a lot harder for everyday people to help others when the big issue at hand is a desheveled infrastructure, completely exposed during a disaster exacerbated by the climate change that many of our "leaders" can't seem to believe in.

Personally, I only lost power 16 hours ago, and I did feel some survivors guilt the last couple of days. But more than that I just feel disappointed and defeated. The city I have grown to know and love so much seems to be trying harder and harder to hurt myself and those around me.

I was able to come to terms with Harvey, with Ike, with the huge fire at deer park ruining our air, with Imelda striking right as I was headed to work. It's just getting harder to justify staying here, maybe the city I know and love so much is better suited as a place to visit time to time. Goodbye seems to make more and more sense as these disappointments continue /rant
