Having to move since my landlord is selling, and I'm working remotely I'm open to looking around a bit. I'm hoping for something cheap-er-ish, but still Houston-adjacent.

I've been looking around and it looks like most of the older places through Montrose are gone, and the near-burbs like Sugarland are freakishly expensive. So where's a good place to look?
