Toll Booths: The Bane of Houstonian Speed https://houstonnewmedia.org/toll-booths-the-bane-of-houstonian-speed/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=toll-booths-the-bane-of-houstonian-speed Mon, 13 Dec 2021 15:41:42 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=29376d719b3cad2e441cb2aebd19e71c

Driven far and wide around the US. Have experienced plenty of toll booths. Houstonians, though, display a particular phenomenon when it comes to them despite our world-renowned reckless driving behavior.

We slow down. Some of us do, at least. I'm talking EZ-tag lanes, no traffic ahead, no hazards to be seen. So, to those who do: why? What mystic, hidden force clamps those brake pads down when nearing a toll booth? What is it about a toll booth that makes you second guess is the speed limit really 65?
