Houston, TX: Mosquito Exorcism

I desperately need advice from people who actually live here, because Google is not on my side.

Im allergic to mosquitos, well, actually since moving here from Oregon I have found out that I am allergic to most things here but I digress.

I have tried all the deet/deet free sprays and yet still (and currently) my body is so covered in swollen, red lumpy bruises that it looks like I put up a pretty good fight… but continue to lose. I even tried immunotherapy for the allergens but since I am on a biologic, and reacted poorly, I had to stop.

Look, I don’t have super high expectations here. I know a certain level of discomfort, dare I say even misery is to be expected living in this humid swamp. But I have an autoimmune disease, am already stuck either inside or in bed probably 75% of the time anyways… I would just really like to be able to fucking go outside once in a while and just lessen the bites a bit.

Does anything actually work…

As a body spray repellent?

To keep a larger percentage of them from getting in when you try your best to ninja open&close your doors?

For a tiny backyard that I may want to visit for a few minutes? It’s ugly, with no privacy and I don’t have thr money to fix it up or get anything too expensive, but dammit sometimes it’s my only access to ‘outside’ and I need that so badly.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks

Houston, TX: Affordable Ring Repair

Hi all, I recently was gifted an antique ring that probably has way more sentimental value that monetary value, but it would still mean a lot to me to be able to repair it. I know nothing about jewelry but it at least needs a deeeeeeep clean and a new band. I don’t have a lot of money but I also don’t want to do a s**t job or have it broken so I was wondering if you all have any recommendations for jewelry repair places. Obviously if I can’t afford it done right I will just wait and save up for it. Thanks

Houston, TX: Extra ticket to Cirque du Soleil Alegria on March 19

I have an extra ticktet to the show on Thursday, March 19 at 8pm at Sam Houston Race Park. Would be down to pick you up (depending on distance, I live near NRG stadium) or meet there.

In case it matters to anyone, I’m a 32 awkward, shy female and this is strictly platonic (ya know, cus sometimes that needs to be said…). I’m new’ish to Houston, never been to the Race Park before, no idea where to park, how to get in, etc but I’m down to go and could use a friend to help navigate and enjoy the show with.

DM me if interested

Houston, TX: Rodeo newbie…

I moved here about a year ago, want to attend the rodeo this year and have some questions. Keep in mind I come from a small town in Oregon sooo be gentle with my ignorance.

Parking: I live a little less than 2 miles from the NRG stadium. My options are walking (30ish mins), taking the bus (25 mins) (I’ve also never taken public transportation here), or driving and parking nearby… Could I park in one of the business parking lots nearby (think like Kroger on Kirby or the big one that has the dollar store on Main)? What do people find as the best option?

Tickets/entrance: There are literally too many things listed to do that it gives me a headache. If I just buy entrance, would that allow me to walk around, see what’s up, find food and possibly ride some rides? Basically is paying for entrance alone enough to give you stuff to do or do I need to be expecting to pay more to gain access to any of the things I mentioned? Like, is there a separate entrance (and fee) for the rides? (yes, I know that rides themselves are separate expenses) I’m sorry, I’m really an idiot.

I’m not into watching any animal things or going to see a concert. I just want to walk around and chill and possibly avoid bigger crowds. Any suggestions on how to do that (“for dummies” edition) would be appreciated
