Where are the best places in Houston to read?

I enjoy reading, and love envisioning the perfect spot. Something like a cozy coffee shop with nice fragrant smells, soft music playing, a light rain tapping the windows outside. Or maybe somewhere nice and calm.

I know there’s a ton of coffee shops—I work at a Starbucks myself—but I was wondering if there were any in particular, or any tea houses, or especially quaint libraries, that I could sit in and read for a couple hours. I’d love to hear any recommendations. Thanks!

Are the any casual, recreational sports that it would be possible to join?

I’ve never been one for sports–I was always a marching band kinda guy–but I’ve seen posts on here, and on various discords here and there, where people have organized casual games of volleyball or kickball that people are able to join. I’d love to do something like that, but I haven’t seen a post mentioning them in a while, and I’m not sure where I would go about finding out about them–if they’re still around at all. Is anyone organizing anything like that that I could learn more about? Furthermore, do any gyms or anything already have things like this that I could look further into? Thanks!!

Anybody have a margarita machine they wouldn’t mind letting me borrow?

I know this is random and probably won’t go anywhere, but two international friends of mine are visiting Houston later this month and I’ve organized a big party at my aunt’s really nice house (she’s a doctor so we always congregate at her place) with all my cousins and family and friends and it’s going to be a really awesome time. For my contribution she asked if I could get my hands on a margarita machine, so I thought I’d ask Reddit just for the hell of it.

For what it’s worth, I’d pick it up and bring it back and would keep it in exquisite care. It’s for April 23rd. Thanks!

What is the status on Houston construction?

I know Houston is gonna Houston, but especially here recently it feels like there’s been a ton of construction seemingly everywhere. It’s making it so miserable to get around anywhere. I work at the Starbucks on Shepard and there’s been construction there for months. There’s construction on 610 in multiple areas. It’s a mess and a pain in the ass.

Is it all in service of a better city? I mean I suppose I like seeing progress get done, but I’m not sure the status of scope of it all. I’d love to hear any takes on it.

When did 107.5 The Eagle start playing grunge?

I don’t know how many of y’all still listen to the radio, but I find myself flipping stations from time to time and I’ve noticed that 107.5 The Eagle, Houston’s main classic rock station, is now regularly playing grunge.

This isn’t bad per se, it is just a bit odd to flip over to the station I’m used to hearing Bob Seger and Poison on and instead hearing Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I suppose this was inevitable; these bands are definitely old enough to classify as classic rock now and they were bound to make their way to this station eventually.

Still, though, it seems like the grunge era is what separates modern rock from classic rock, even though it was like thirty years ago at this point. Bear in mind I’m only 23, so I wasn’t around for this change in music. It’s just odd to hear Nirvana and Pearl Jam play on 107.5, the classic rock station, alongside 94.5 The Buzz, the “hip” alternative rock station. What are your thoughts? Does this mean other rock bands from the time are going to start making their way over? I can’t deny, it would feel weird hearing Weezer and Spin Doctors on the classic rock station, but I suppose that’s just time marching forward.

Are there any good salons where I can tell them to just just style my hair in whatever way looks best?

As the title says, I’m a guy who been growing his hair out, putting it in ponytails or buns, and that’s about it. I’m not sure what kind of hairstyle would look best for my head shape/hairline, so are there any good salons where I can just tell them to do that for me? I want something better than a Supercuts for this, if you catch my drift.
