I've gotten a recent obsession with crabs. I have 10 hermit crabs separated in a 55L, 40b, and 30L crabitat, 4 red claws (3 females, 1 male) making a switch to a 10 gallon soon (I was told they could be in a 5 gallon with 3 males but after research I should have known better than to trust a pet store's advice. One was killed and the one being chased was returned to the store. He got adopted the same day, I'm happy. If they need a 20 gallon let me know now because this 10 gallon is about to start its cycle tomorrow. When I get off work.

I accidentally stumbled across a page about vampire crab care while waiting out the storm (my anxious dog woke me for comfort) . I love vampires, I love crabs, I love colorful crabs. I love them! I read I can keep about 10+ in a 10 gallon. If that's true I wanted 2 to 3 males and the rest females to reduce male aggression, since I read they should have 2 females per male crab.

I literally have 3 ten gallon tanks taking up space so i want to use the ten gallon for the vampire crabs. If I need to reduce the numbers I can separate them into the two extra tanks but I was hoping to keep one tank free as an isolation tank. Also willing to do 2 males and 4 females if that keeps them in a 10 gallon.

Currently have a 10 gallon isolation tank for my hermit running now, so it makes me feel less anxious knowing I have a stable habitat I can quickly isolate a vulnerable crab in.

This new hobby is literal saving my life. Any kind advice is welcome. I'd like to add that I want to know where to get the crabs, but I'm not getting them until their set up is ready. I'm excited for the challenge!

I have dogs and cats who I would die for but they're my companions that help with some issues. The crabs are like a hobby and a passion that gives me a sense of having a life outside of work and sleeping and maybe eating if I have to. (I'm seeking psychiatric help and therapy but if I do nothing in between that doesn't help improve my life)

I do want to note that while I'm new to this hobby, I'm not rich, vet med does not pay well. It could be months before I get the crabs set up complete while taking care of the zoo I have, but I want to be 100% ready for when they come home. I also read they have babies pretty differently than red claws and hermits. Should I keep a tank on the side for them? 2.5 gallon maybe? 5 gallon?

Any advice is very welcome! Thank you!
