Will Jose Altuve get a redemption story like Tom Brady
As one might expect this was removed from r/baseball. Just wanted to hear opinions.
How close are the stories of these two athletes with respect to their teams and the situation they found themselves in scandals?
Jose Altuve- Plays for the Houston Astros (caught using a scheme involving cameras and trash cans) in 2017. Supposedly Altuve didn’t take part in the scheme, but he was and is the face of the Houston Astros. He happened to win the AL MVP of this same year and the Astros won the World series. Altuve apologized for cheating?… Today Altuve is regarded as a villain to most of the baseball fandom for his “role?” within the scheme. Once the hero with a great story, now a cheating zero. The Astros as a whole have also been heavily despised by both fans and other teams the last two years since the scandal broke out. The Astros suffered draft picks and a monetary fine (5 million) for the scandal with no suspension of players, but mulitple coaches were fired.
Tom Brady- Currently plays for the Buccaneers, but previously played for the New England (Boston) Patriots. In a playoff game against the Colts in 2014 season, Brady and Patriots deflated footballs. The Patriots, like the Astros, also happened to win the Super Bowl the year that they were found to have cheated. Tom Brady apologized for cheating. Today Brady is now considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time and is considered a “hero” to most fans of the NFL as well as other players in the NFL. Deflategate was a topic for a maximum of two years. Brady was eventually suspended for 4 games and the Patriots also suffered from draft picks and a monetary fine (1 million) for the scandal. No coaches or staff were fired.
Take what you will from the comparisons. Will Altuve find redemption from the MLB fanhood like Brady found his in the NFL?
Opinion- I don’t think so. MLB fans tend to be hard headed right now and I don’t think the media will “help” Altuve’s case. At least the hard headed ones are the loudest.
