I have lived in many apartments in my adult live and never have I experienced such utter dissatisfaction. It has almost been a year since I moved into this place and everyday has been hell. I will start from the beginning and hopefully this can help those trying to make a choice of where to live, I was looking around for apartment near shopping/fast food since I work late and Pines of woodforest was near everything I needed. I did look at the reviews and yes it had tons of bad but more good *this was my first mistake* so I set up an appointment to meet Gena. When I spoke with Gena and told her what I was looking for “Up stairs due to hurricane Harvey and losing everything in my last apartment I no longer wanted downstairs apartments” she said she had an up stair that wouldn’t been ready until the end of the month but she has a demo place she could show me. She showed me the demo and it looked amazing and I was ready to sign but after all my years of living in apartments I found it odd that she wouldn’t let me take a peek at the apartment that I would be staying in the crazy part is the apartment above the demo was the on she was referring to not being ready until the end of the month.

I ended up signing after speaking with her about the negative reviews and she put me at ease saying this was a common thing due to the area *this is my second mistake listening to her she makes commission off of this*. Move in day I get there an hour before the office close Gena is there and give me a odd remark saying “Should have gotten here earlier we close in a hour I should tell you to come tomorrow it’s too much paper work to sign with an hour left” I was stun she said this because she came off so professional last time and now she was acting very rude. When I went over everything I asked her about this bed bug clause they have in the contract she stated “We make sure there are no existing pest in our units so if there any bed bugs you brought them so sign this or I can’t give you the keys” once again very rude, but I just wanted to unpack and unwind so I signed everything got my keys and when to the unit. When I got there one of the movers I hired said “You have roaches everywhere in man you might want to talk to the front office” I was angry she basically lied about pest everywhere. I was about to walk back to the front office until another gentlemen from the moving company mentioned water was running from the kitchen sink and he was unable to cut it off. That was the last straw I went to the office and Gena told me “We are closing call after hours services” she closes the door with a smirk on her face.

I ended up calling the maintenance after hour services which sent someone out to just cut off the water. The first night was dreadful I had to pay for another day to have my stuff moved because the roach issue plus no water so I had to use the gas station down the street to use the restroom I also ended up sleeping in my car due to this. I met Vanessa the next day and explain the roach and the water issue the apologized and told me “breaking lease would be a large charge let’s work together to remedy this” All she did was sent maintenance to turn the water on and spray the unit full of roach spray. I finally moved into the unit 3 days later but the roaches where still everywhere plus flies and I called the front office again throughout the week and they just sprayed and leave a notice saying they did the job. I ended up going on a family trip to Hawaii during my second week there and Vanessa told me they would spray everyday and if roaches were still there she would give me a discount on my rent for the remainder of the year. I ended up setting up cameras in the unit to see what exactly happen during the week they came sprayed and left. The day before I came home Gena came into the apartment saying “he has a trash can full of boxes so this is why the roaches keep coming back” she ended up spraying then left.

When I returned I told her about the camera and what happen during the week she told me I need to leave the office or she would call the polices because she felt threaten. After a month of thinking and continuous maintenance people coming and spraying I grew tired of the poison smell and the pest so I call professionals. I shelled out nearly a 1k because they got rid of the roaches, flies and bed bug eggs, I was completely upset at this because not only did they not prepare the unit for me they had pest everywhere. The last thing the pest control told me was to have them to seal the holes in the cabinets because the pest are coming through the holes. Fed up I call corporate they gave me the run around so no help. I spoke with Vanessa (Glad it wasn’t Gena) again she said she would send maintenance to come and seal the holes. No one came for 2 weeks even after I called multiple times, when they did come they claimed to not see any holes. When I got home the door wouldn’t open properly so after shoving my weight against the door it open but the top deadbolt wouldn’t work anymore which was odd so now my door won’t fully lock when I am home. 10 months later I stopped calling the front office and just live here because once lease is up I’m moving and forgetting about this place. One more thing to add I found out why they have good reviews because they ask those who don’t live here to give them 4 or 5 stars so they wouldn’t get in trouble with corporate a neighbor told me this, that is beyond sad. Do yourself a favor stay away from pines of wood forest it not worth the headache and I not the only one depressed about this because plenty of my neighbors feel the same way.
