A fellow Redditor organized a litter cleanup event this morning at the on/off ramp of 59 at Chenevert St. My assumption is that most of the litter had been there for quite some time since bags disintegrated when we pulled them up and bottles were buried underneath dirt and other debris. This is just one median. Is this TXDOT’s responsibility or is it the city of Houston’s? At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that this same scene can be found in many areas of our great city.
We all want to live in a cleaner environment free of as much litter and debris as possible, but the steps that need to be taken to contact representatives, etc. can be rather intimidating for many, and let’s face it, we all have priorities with jobs, family, etc. that take our focus away from issues such as litter. I get it. With that said, there’s power in numbers; therefore, I implore you to contact the appropriate representative, entity, etc. when you see something as unsightly as what we saw today. More importantly, feel free to scan through Meetup.com for opportunities to volunteer, etc.
Want to contact a city council official about litter issues in your district? Don’t know what district the litter issues are located in within the city? Click on the following links:

Want to file a complaint with TXDOT? Click on this link:

Want to report litter within the city of Houston and track when the job was completed? Click on this link:
https://www.houstontx.gov/311/ (You can also download the “City of Houston 311 Help and Info” app.).
Want to report someone who just littered? Download the “Don’t Mess with Texas” app and report them when you can do so safely. I do not recommend confronting them.
Lastly, thanks to whomever started the “DeTrash Houston” Reddit page. Since the page doesn’t look like it has been active for a while, the pictures on this post will be posted on that one, as well. You are encouraged to do the same when you come across unsightly litter in your neighborhood!
**When you make a report, etc., please don’t do so while driving. Your fellow Houstonians would appreciate it.**
Have a great Sunday!
