Move-out water bill is crazy high, did they just back-end all my water usage? Has anyone else experienced this?
Hey yall, basically I moved out of state (bye!) in June, and my water close-out date was set for 7/1. I get the final bill and it’s $634 with an “estimated reading” of 27,000 gallons of usage….like, what the hell?
I start checking old bills to see what my normal usage is to make sure my house didn’t spring a leak or the new owner didn’t flood the place in since I left and the last reading was 6/27 at ….0 gallons. And the month before that was 0 gallons, and every month before that going back 2 years (I owned the place since 2018 but the online bill statements don’t go back that far). It looks like they’ve been just charging me the “base water usage” rate for years then when I left they estimated that I owed them for 27,000 gallons.
I mean, if that’s the case, 27k gal/$634 for 3 and a half years of water isn’t the end of the world, but Jesus it would have been nice not to get hit with it all at once. I went ahead and appealed the bill on the houstonwater.org site, but I just wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this when moving out of a Houston address?
