May Downtown Hiking Tip & Lunch Saturday 5/14

Join us for our annual spring hiking trip event to enjoy the great outdoor and great weather in our great city, and meet new friends with the Houston International Jaycees! We will explore the many Memorial Park trails near downtown Houston.

Which trail should we take? The easy one or the challenging one?

What would you be up for?

After completing as many trails as we can, we will head out for a well deserve lunch, where we can rest and meet everyone!!

Please make sure bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat to protect yourself and outdoor outfit.

DATE: Saturday, May 14th, 2022

TIME: 9 AM-2 PM We will head out around 9:20 to hit the trails.

WHERE: Meet up at Cullen Running Trails Center 7575 N Picnic Ln, Houston, TX 77007. There is plenty of parking!

LUNCH: Shandy’s 5814 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77007. A great place with great burgers, sandwiches, salads, and more!! Check out the menu below.

Saturday 3/24/22 GAME NIGHT Social & Feminine Hygiene Drive for Homeless Women

Our annual board game night is back!! We will be providing many games for everyone to play. If you have a favorite board game that you want to play, bring it! Worried that you don’t know how to play a game? That’s ok, we are happy to teach you!

WHAT GAMES: Codenames, Say Anything, Exploding Kittens, Splendor, Joking Hazard, Secret Hitler, Unstable Unicorns, The Metagame, Catan, Sushi Go, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, and more! Feel free to bring any games you want to play!

DATE: Saturday March 26th 4-10 PM

LOCATION: Cafe Express 210 Meyerland Plaza Houston Tx 77096

We will be seating to the left side of the restaurant once you enter.

Please also consider helping the homeless women by bringing feminine hygiene products. These items bring much needed dignity to women who should not have to go without them. They often have to make the choice between purchasing food and feminine hygiene items. We will be donating them to the Star of Hope. Over the past 4 years, we have collected over hundreds of feminine hygiene and we collect more each year from everyone’s donation. Help us continue this great tradition by donating at this event!

Christmas & Winter Holidays Cards for Seniors & Boba Tea Social

Do you have extra blank cards from the Christmas or winter holidays lying around? Want to brighten someone else’s day? Want to hang out and meet some great young professionals?

Come join the Houston International Jaycees at the Christmas & Winter Holidays for Seniors while hanging out at Happy Tea, where you can try different boba teas and other sweet treats!

They will be writing positive notes in holidays cards for senior citizens in assisted living homes. Many of these elders at these homes feel isolated and more lonely during the winter holidays since many of them are still have limited contact with family and friends due to the pandemic . These holiday greetings cards filled with kind words and thoughts will have positive impacts on these senior citizens’ day!

Date: Saturday, December 4th from 1-3:00 PM

Location: Happy Tea & Cafe 9310 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77063

There is plenty of parking in the front of the park.

Have no blank cards? Not sure what to write? No problem! There will be blank cards available to write. If you are not sure about coming to this event and want to still contribute to this event, any donations of blank cards or cards will good meanings will be expected and appreciated! The more cards there are, the more senior citizens will be reached!

If you like to create a bright spot in these patients’ lives, join them for this great, unique volunteer event, and want to hang out with some cool people, come on down!! Everyone is welcome!! There are limited spots for this event, so reserved your spot quick!

Join us for #STOPASIANHATE: An online panel discussion about AAPI Identity. Panelists and moderators from the Honolulu and Houston communities will come together to discuss: the impact of #StopAsianHate in the Houston and Hawaii communities; AAPI identity in light of recent events; and advocacy for the end of AAPI discrimination. This panel discussion is led by the Houston International Jaycees (HIJ) in partnership with the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees (HCJ).

This event will be moderated by Alena Auyoung (HCJ VP of Membership and Individual Development) and Paul Porto (HIJ Member). They will have a the privilege of facilitating this discussion with the following panelists, each of whom bring unique contributions to this topic:

  • Representative Adrian Tam (Openly Gay member of Hawaii State Legislature)

Tech Skillz for Seniors – Volunteers Needed!!

Calling all volunteers!! Joins us as we help teach senior citizens essential computer skills in to lead a more independent life!

During this day and age, everyone needs to have good, basic computer skills to have more independence in their lives. During 2020, many senior citizens were isolated from families and friends since many them had difficulties learning computer skills, especially for using different video conferencing apps, such as Zoom.

That is why the Houston International Jaycees are collaborating with the Chinese Senior Health Services and Chinese Community Center to hold the “Tech Skillz for Seniors” event.

This event will help teach senior citizens on how to use Zoom with two classes from basic to advance skills. From these lessons, senior citizens will gain important skills to contact with their families and friends from the safety of their homes.

We need up to 30+ volunteers to help make this event a success!! Each volunteer will be partner up with one senior to assistance through the course. We are looking volunteers from ages 16+ and up will have duties from:
– assist one senior during the class on the Zoom computer skills to help guide them
– Mandarin/Cantonese translators
– floaters
– enjoying working with senior citizens
Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

DATE: Saturday July 31st
TIME: 9:30 AM- 2PM – If you can’t volunteer for the whole time, that’s ok! Just let us know when you need to leave.
