I moved here from Ohio recently and I'm wondering how safe it is to go on overgrown trails in the woods or near the water. In Ohio we have pretty much nothing to worry about in terms of snakes, spiders, predators, plants et c. So I would usually take my 3 year old to the forest and check out all the plants and look at bugs and creeks and ponds. What's a safe way to get hands on with nature around here?

I live near George Bush Park and there are a few wooded trails but the one I went on wasn't maintained and the grass and weeds were really tall so we turned back. We saw some wild hogs later from a distance.

It's really beautiful here! I'm so glad to be missing out on cloudy Ohio winter this year.
