Hi folks, apologies if this does not belong here, just wanted some insight from people that live in Houston.

So my wife is a US citizen and I am a Canadian citizen living in Calgary Canada. She is currently living with me in Calgary on a visitor visa, we were able to extend and are in the process of getting her permanent residence in Canada so she can work.

HOWEVER, our ultimate plan is to move to Houston and buy a house, I know it probably sounds funny but seeing what kind of house you can get down there for the money is CRAZY! I mean you can get a whole ass mansion looking crib for say 500k.

Anyways, I just wanted to get your input as to if it is a good idea to move to Houston right now? I work in controls engineering (I do PLC programming) and had a few job offers down there, I did not take them though because we did not feel like we were ready for the move yet.

What is it like living in Houston? Are people nice? I know racism is everywhere but is it very common in Houston? (I am many things but I pass as white lmao, and my wife is asian, born and raised in the US).

We’ve visited before and loved it, I do know Calgary and Houston are both somewhat considered the oil and gas driven cities, but the oil and gas industry in Calgary is pretty much dead now. Is it the same in Houston?
