Pt 2: How can I help people struggling with depression in Houston?

Hi again everyone, I made a post a few months ago asking about how I could help people in our community that deal with depression and I had many people reach out about their struggles with depression last time. Some were looking for advice and others just wanted to know that someone out there cared about their situation. Posters also suggested donating and volunteering at NAMI (joined!) and MHAH.

I know school and university just started up again so I thought now would be a good time to make a follow up post and see if I could help others that might need it. If anyone is going through a tough time mentally and needs someone to talk to or just listen, please PM me.

My background: I’ve dealt with clinical depression for years prior to receiving ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy). It changed my life and I want to give back to the people that need it most.

Thanks yall 🙂

How to block bass from disturbing your life in Houston (Guide)

Hey everyone,

I recently moved to a new place and sadly there is no HOA so people freely blast their shitty music through their speakers/subs worth more than their cars. I’ve spoken to some of them and it helped for a bit but after awhile the bass was back at the same mentally draining level, literally shaking the entire place.

Onto the simple guide. These steps might be common knowledge but I thought I’d share here since our city is so damn loud.

  1. Buy a bass heavy speaker. I bought this one but I’m sure a cheaper one could do the job.

  2. Place the speaker in the room you’re in or wherever the bass is the heaviest. I bought 2 speakers so I wouldn’t have to keep moving them around. You can face the speaker towards or away from you, the speaker doesn’t have to be too close to you either.

  3. Play this on repeat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDlIG-FXVQA). This one was the best sound I’ve found. Please share yours if you’ve found better sounds!

Basically this will drown out other bass by playing a constant low bass sound. Not entirely sure about the technicals on how it works but it works!

Hopefully this can help someone out there. Unwanted noise and bass can mentally exhaust people. I was on the verge of insanity many days before this. Please try this out if you’ve been unable to get through to your loud dumbass neighbors and also share other tips you use to block out unwanted noise!
