Can I ask for some advice regarding unemployment?

So to keep a long story short, yesterday I was called into the office to have a meeting with the president and HR. Essentially they are replacing me with someone “with a college degree and more experience”. I was told that I was basically put in a position destined to fail since day one…2 years ago.

The president told me, we dont have any more office positions open but you are welcome to work in the field. With that being said, I am not wanting to be a construction laborer. I am a tech/software driven individual, I’ve been working in that space for over 7 years at this same company. Basically I feel extremely rug pulled and want to know if this is something I can get unemployment out of, or does them offering me another position negate that? I have never once applied or needed to file for it so I am still very new to it and what constitutes getting it vs not. It’s been a really shitty week so any advice would be appreciated.

Houston staffing companies, who to use and who to watch out for?

I have been trying for about a month and a half now to land a new job somewhere in the tech industry. I currently work in construction and I’m just completely fed up with my company. I have done a pretty deep dive into staffing companies in Houston but cant for the life of me find a reputable one that actually answers emails and phone call follow ups, and reviews on most of them are generally really bad.

Does anyone have any recommendations and possible first hand good experiences with any? I am also open to nationwide IT staffing recommendations and working remote as that’s what I do now. I have been stalking linkedin/indeed/dice/etc and there are always 80+ applicants within 5 minutes of jobs being posted. I am trying to get something very basic and entry level somewhere in the help desk realm to get my feet wet. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone been to Renn Fest this year yet?

Hi all, Long time Houstonian who used to go often but haven’t gone in a few years (hence this post).

I was curious if anyone had gone this year yet? A few people have stated that getting there is a lot easier now that some construction on 249 has been completed. Is there any truth to this, I am trying to figure out what the best route there is, keeping in mind that a lot of side streets are closed. Tomorrow looks like a beautiful day to check it out, and I’m aware that there are threads about this but seeing that traffic flow/construction changes things over the course of a few years. Thanks in advance and hope we all have a great weekend!
