Let me preface this by saying I love JJ. He was not just a great player for us, he was also a pillar of the community. His charitable efforts did so much for so many people when they needed it most, and for that he’ll always be beloved in this city.
Which ties into my reason for making this thread. The city of Houston, like much of the state, was just ravaged by a freak winter storm. Millions were without power during freezing temperatures.
This should be right in the wheelhouse for someone who raised $37 million for the city after Harvey, right? He said in a recent video that he thinks of the community as family. If that’s sincere, you’d think he would have at least mentioned the situation on social media, right?
Since last Monday he’s tweeted about his family, his dog, and free agency, but not one word about the disaster. That’s so uncharacteristic that I can’t help but wonder if the the last two years left such a bad taste in his mouth that he’s ready to put the city in the rear view mirror.
If that’s the case, then his release shifts from bittersweet (“go get you a ring”) to depressing (“I’m sorry our team broke you”).
