Another post reminded me how much I disliked R. Smith. Not as a GM but as a person. RANT

This will prob be downvoted into Oblivion but…

TL:DR – Rick Smith knows better than the top oncologists in the world, moves his wife from Houston to Arizona for “alternative treatment,” and an amazing woman dies. Houston cancer success rates, 90%, alterative treatments, 55%

Rick Smith was always arrogant and would brag to the player about how important he was. He got close enough to Cal McNair to be his kids godfather, knowing it would be hard to fire him. Cal was/is dumb enough to not see through it. Lets face it, he is no where near his fathers business sense.

He would fire people that the players and McNairs loved and say they “quit” to install his boys. McNair actually called these people that “quit” asking them why and knew they were fired. Nothing happened. I know that happens, but when the strength coach is actively responsible for tearing Ryan Mallets’ peck and various other injuries and show up to work stinking drunk, thats not okay. This strength coach brought in hay bails into the weight room for his “arm farm.” But he was Ricks boy so he stayed way longer than he should have. Guess who hasnt been able to get another job and stay there for any length of time because injuries plague him?

And guess where he is working now…. https://www.linkedin.com/in/ray-wright-206518b2/

All of this I can kinda overlook as just football. But what takes the cake is what happened 2 years ago and it still makes me mad. His wife Tiffany, who was an AMAZING person, was diagnosed with cancer.

He and his wife met with a team of oncologists in Houston. Houston is known for a few things. Oil, bbq, and the largest medical center in the world. MD Anderson boasts a 90% success rate over 5 years.

After meeting with the oncologists, he decided that he knew better than the tops docs in cancer and decided not to have her treated here. Instead he opted for a “alternative treatment”. Success rates over 5 years are closer to 55%

From SI – One the one hand, he was weighing a treatment plan that would require Tiffany to spend weeks at a time at a holistic treatment center in Arizona, away from her kids; on the other, he was trying to trade his left tackle, Duane Brown, to Seattle.

He didnt even TRY the proven methods. He DiD hIs ReSeArCh. I can understand trying alternative methods if nothing else is working, or using them IN ADDITION to traditional methods. Here is what “holistic” “alternative” treatments include. Aromatherapy, massage, yoga, acupuncture, etc. So while she was getting rub downs and needles in her skin, the cancer grew.

From Harvard Med – If you have cancer and are interested in herbs, acupuncture, or other alternative treatments, talk to your doctor. Think twice before declining conventional treatments. But if you do decline recommended treatment, make sure you understand the pros and cons of doing so, including the possibility of shorter survival

I feel for the grieving family, but it infuriates me that he was part of the problem. When people start talking about his coming back, my response, is hell no. He thinks he knows better than a team of doctors so who would he listen to about football?
