[Kawahara] Framber Valdez did not call his own pitches with PitchCom today. Joe Espada said coaches discussed it with Valdez and reasoned Valdez can focus more on pitch execution and holding runners if the catcher is giving signals. He said he thought Valdez worked at a better pace today.

[Rome] The Astros reassigned Spencer Arrighetti and Ray Gaither to minor-league camp. They also optioned Forrest Whitley to minor-league camp. Whitley got a fourth and final minor-league option year this winter.

[Ari] The Astros bench battle is a fun one: Julks is playing great, but lacks positional versatility and the Astros have 2 fulltime LFs and an elite backup at CF. Singleton is LHH, but only plays 1B. Cabbage is a wildcard. Kessinger & Hensley both position versatile but RHH.
