Adventures in MRI Pricing in Houston https://houstonnewmedia.org/adventures-in-mri-pricing-in-houston/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=adventures-in-mri-pricing-in-houston Tue, 30 Jun 2020 00:12:56 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=9787573ed3ca66afac95e9da42b1f295

I need an MRI of my knee. My doctor's office scheduled me for Methodist Imaging. They ran my insurance and quoted me a co-pay of $986 since I haven't reached my out- of -pocket limit for the year. I thought that was really expensive so I remembered a thread here on /Houston about better prices for MRIs. I took the advice there and called Houston Medical Imaging. They ran my insurance for the SAME code but since they aren't affiliated with a hospital, they charge me as an out-patient and quoted me a $35 copay. THEN just for fun, I checked the cash prices at the same places.

FOUR prices for the EXACT same MRI procedure:

Methodist Imaging (hospital affiliated) MRI w/insurance - $986 without insurance $2,874

Houston Medical Imaging (non-hospital affiliated) MRI w/insurance - $35 without insurance $450.

That's insanity!! The exact same thing ranges from $35 to almost $3,000!! INSANITY!

Postal Worker Shot Last December Has a Long Road to Recovery https://houstonnewmedia.org/postal-worker-shot-last-december-has-a-long-road-to-recovery/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=postal-worker-shot-last-december-has-a-long-road-to-recovery Fri, 12 Jun 2020 04:13:18 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=825e04033c222f149111b7a1a4c51ead

I'm posting this because I know Houston media get stories off this subreddit and this is a story that is local, updating a shooting that's been off the radar, has tie-ins to the Aryan nation, involves a black man being shot for being black, AND human interest in his outcome and recovery. Maybe he can get a little press and a little love. His friend, Mary Hayslip, has set up a Go Fund Me and she can be contacted through that listing. She wrote:

"On December 28, 2019, my dear friend, Adrian Jackson (AJ), was shot by a member of the Aryan Nation while delivering mail on his daily route in the Spring Branch area. After the assailant shot AJ he drove to the nearby I-10 Costco and shot an Asian man who worked there at the gas station. AJ was shot in his abdomen and spine, causing nearly fatal injuries that have left him permanently disabled.

AJ is currently living in a rehab center trying to regain his ability to walk."
