Barker and Addicks Reservoir recreation https://houstonnewmedia.org/barker-and-addicks-reservoir-recreation/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=barker-and-addicks-reservoir-recreation Sun, 11 Sep 2022 21:50:19 +0000 http://houstonnewmedia.org/?guid=c4666fb8dbcff58ccc93c7fa38642c83

I just moved here and have been trying to gather some information on the two reservoirs west of the city and see if they would be fun places to hike. Obviously, they're probably flooded a good portion of the time, but looking on google maps, it looks like two large forests.

I know that some sections of the park are designated as parks and have amenities like trails and soccer fields, but it looks like there's giant sections that are completely undeveloped tracts of forest.

Are you able to walk around these areas when they're dry to hike/birdwatch etc. or are they swampy or inaccesable? I can't really find any information on either of the reservoirs because every google result is about flood control stuff.

It would be really cool if those areas were forested and accessible to hikers; I think they total like 26,000 acres which would collectively be one of the world's largest urban parks.
