Networking/meeting new people

I was transferred down to Houston during Covid. My fiancĂ©e & I didn’t know anyone when we came down which was fine but found its been a little more challenging to meet people than what we expected.

We were in the River Oaks/Upper Kirby area the first year but since moved up The Woodlands area as I was working on a project in Conroe. Now being permanently remote, we just decided to stay.

We’ve met two really awesome couples but that’s about it. Any advice? We seem to start great conversations with others when out but it doesn’t transition past that night.

We are both in our mid-late twenties. Both are really into sports (hockey is favorite but know it’s non existent down here), really enjoy the breweries, going to concerts, & getting out to the local parks.

Shiba/Dog Cafe?

Hi Everyone!

So my fiancĂ©e is obsessed with Shibas. Completely obsessed. It’s pretty much what she talks about everyday. Don’t get me wrong, she loves all dogs especially mutts but Shibas are her favorite. We’ve been together for the past 6 years & she’s always want to own one but we’ve just been in small apartments/have high amounts of traveling due to job(s) so we’ve never gone forward with the process of owning one (would try to adopt/rescue one over getting a puppy) because of where we are in our lives.

Anyways, she gets overly excited to see them in public but she’s never even pet one before because she feels bad asking. I’d like to somehow make that dream come true for her but wondering if there’s any Shiba/dog cafes in the Houston area? I’ve seen them in Japan & some west coast cities but thought it’s worth a shot asking.

Hopefully this even makes sense haha. Thanks!

What keeps you to stay long term in Houston?

I’ve been living in Houston since the COVID era really began. I love Houston. I love the people (when they’re not driving), the culture, the ongoing events, the weather (for the most part), the breweries, and so forth.

I’ve been beginning to think of establishing myself long term here with the next step of buying a home. I’ve been transfered around to many cities for work but I feel right at home here in Houston. My friend group is small due to being remote full time now but everyone I’ve met has been great.

I’m curious to hear what keeps people here long term besides the usual “it’s all I know”, “cannot afford to leave” or “my family is here so I’m here”.

P.S.: My job isn’t located here and I always have that back in my mind fear of being let go someday so what’s everyone’s employment experiences?
