Hi, newish (a few years living just outside North Loop) to Houston and thinking of buying centrally. I've been seeing some good deals in an area called Riverside Terrace that kind of looks like it's in third ward. I'm not sure. I hear not the grestest about third ward, but the homes in this neighborhood look very nice (there are straight mansions close to the bayou) and about 80% look well kept. Is this a dangerous area, or at least safe enough to wait for gentrification to safen it up a bit? Fwiw I'm a brown guy (I could pass for black) and married so I would not be alone and I think I could fit into what I hear is a largely AA community without attracting attention to myself.
