For those of you who don’t know, there happens to be 2 traveling Van Gogh exhibits in town right now. My wife and I went to both. One was worth it, one was not. The TLDR version: Go to the one at Marq’E center on I10. It’s way better, and actually cheaper.

My wife got us tickets to both. We both like art and thought these would be fun. The first one we went to is considered the “Original”. It started in Paris I believe and had been all over the world. It’s the one we went to first, and it was the more expensive of the 2. It was cool, but we both left feeling like it was a waste of money. You go in a giant room, find a place to sit or lie down and watch about a 45 minute loop of video that’s projected onto the walls. They are essentially “animated” versions of VVG’s most famous works. And that’s it. Once you’ve seen it, there’s literally nothing else to see except a gift shop. This one is located off of Brittmoore Road, behind a really cool bar called Powder Keg.
The other one, located at I10 and Silber, is much more of an experience. First, you tour a 3 room museum that has a ton of information about VVG’s life and works of art. For a pop up exhibit like this, it’s very well done. You can really learn a lot about him and about art in general if you take the time to read and listen to a few of the exhibits. Then you enter the immersive room, and this one is just better in every way. More art, better animations and it flows through his life so you get a sense of how the things he went through (which you just leaned about in the previous rooms) impacted his art. Overall, it’s a better experience, cheaper, and you can learn a lot if you choose to.
Anyone else been to both and feel the same way?
