Dear Parents of XXXXXXXX,
Humble ISD has layers of protection in place to safeguard students, staff, and campus visitors. This school year, as an innovative safety precaution, we are adding ballistic shields for teachers to hold in the unlikely event of an armed intruder. With the shield, the teacher may be able to delay or evade the attacker until police officers intervene.
Some teachers in our school have shields now. More teachers will gain shields as the manufacturer makes them available and the district purchases them. This summer, teachers were given the opportunity to choose to have a shield in their classroom and to sign up and complete training with the Humble ISD Police Department on how to utilize their shield.
As you can understand, we cannot disclose what teachers are equipped with shields. This specific information would give an attacker an advantage. You can help keep our students and staff safe by not sharing or posting information online if you become aware of a shield in a classroom.
Safety is our number 1 priority and our first goal. Protecting students, staff, and campus visitors from those with harmful intentions matters deeply to everyone. We thank you for partnering with us on safe and secure schools.
