The Postseason and /r/Astros Rules

Hey everyone! We know this is a very exciting time, and being the post season, we’re expecting an influx of fans from all over the place. We figured this was an opportune time to do a quick refresher of the sub rules, as well as some reminders for post season.

r/Astros Code of Conduct

Yes, it’s big. Yes, you should read it.

  • We’re going to get visitors from other subs. Treat them as you’d treat any other Redditor. Don’t feed the trolls, and report anything that breaks the sub rules. Mod Team will take care of it ASAP. Reminder- Report does not mean “I super disagree”.

  • Posts are restricted and will be kept in a filter for mod review. This means that when you post, it will take some time for the post to be visible, and not all posts will be approved. Keep merch, art, check-ins, pictures of your dogs/kids, and memes to the megathreads. We’re going to keep clutter to a minimum. We love seeing all of the Astros love and fandom, but trying to keep the sub relevant to baseball-related topics as much as possible.

  • Keep anything ticket related to the various Postseason Ticket threads post throughout the series. There should always be one stickied somewhere.

  • As we all know, there will be tough moments. Or if you’re relatively green to baseball (like /u/allphilla), then know there will be tough moments. We know how you feel. In the same or different ways, every Astros fan will feel it, too. The umps will suck. The umps will suck for us and not for them. The ball will bounce the other teams’ way. Sometimes a lot. One of their guys will make a miracle play, and one of our guys may make a sh!&y play, throw a sh!&y pitch. We’ll fall behind. Or lose a lead. Dusty will make a move that backfires. Dusty will not make a move when you think he should. In each case, you may want to express your feelings in a game thread. Ok. Fine. Ok. But, two things: one, there is no requirement that you spew every bit of anger, disgust, or fear you have through your fingers and onto the game thread. If you want to feel funky, feel free, but please don’t spread that funk on me. Two, if your contribution is constant negativity and/or vitriol, maybe take a breather from typing. If not, you will be sent to the showers until at least the next game.

  • The sub is going to be inundated with posts of varying quality. If it’s a low effort post, it’s not going to be approved. Following the COC, submissions when good or bad things happen will be limited to the first submission and the rest will be removed. It’s nothing personal.

  • Generally, stay out of other team subs. But if you go there, go there as a respectful visitor in someone else’s home. You want to hang out in the Rays sub to root for the Rays to mash the Jankees. Cool, I guess. FTY. You want to talk trash in the Rays sub, definitely not cool. In the former case, behave as a guest would. In the latter case, your behavior will result in a ban there and here.

Any other questions, ask them here or shoot us a modmail. Let’s go Astros!

Off Day Thread. June 14, 2021

In typical fashion 3 questions (I cheated and loaded some of them):

  • Who’s your pick for team MVP, Cy Young, and RotY? League picks? Why are those answers the same?
  • Do you want to give piggybacking starters a try for RoS? If not, explain why you aren’t wrong!
  • How are you today?

We do also have a student researcher, u/Student_of_Rivalry, doing some work on MLB Rivalries. It would be awesome if we can help them out. Check the comment below for more details about that.
