Passed through an intersection today with its traffic lights out/flashing red. Naturally, when the lights go out, it turns into a clusterfuck of “who goes first,” compunded by Houston’s famously bad/aggressive drivers.
It occured to me that I’ve never seen an HPD officer directing traffic at one of these instances. Why is that? Is there some law or statute saying that’s not their job? Are there not enough resources to divert to one intersection? Are they just plain lazy?
There’s the off chance that I’ve always come to an intersection before a cop shows up but that would be an incredible coincidence.
