Car down for over a month – Need some mechanic recommendations that allow you to bring your own parts

Hey guys so I have read through 25+ posts but didn’t find what I need. I’m lower income so most shops labor prices are out of my price range unfortunately. Please don’t judge or criticize, I’m doing the best I can in these very hard times. I had a side mechanic who did wonderful work at lower labor costs but he is retiring and not taking on bigger projects so I’m practically screwed because he so honest and but is now less reliable.

I’m looking for a mechanics that allow you to bring your own parts and won’t charge and arm and a leg for labor. I have a 2010 Chevy HHR with over 250k miles and I’m looking at a possible engine replacement (no start with older known head gasket issues). Just got jacked for the 3rd time by yet another mechanic. Told me it was the purge valve and charged me 130 bucks in labor for a 20 minute swap. I can’t afford another car right now and have been in a rental for over 3 weeks. I just want to get my car fixed before I run out of money and I can’t afford a 3k repair on a car that’s only worth 1500 bucks. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Help & tips navigating current Houston job market for entry level positions

So the title says it all. I saw a post the other day regarding the 200k jobs in Houston. I recently graduated this past Dec with my BA from U of H. I have over 15 years in administrative experience but want to go into HR or something that pays decently. I don’t want to teach (I sub currently on the side) I work for the state full time now (7 years) and they literally pay us pennies and I’m tired of having to side hustle to make a livable wage. I’m not particular about field but I would like something where I can continuously grow and receive raises. I’ve never received a raise at the state and have had to move positions just to make something over 14.00 an hour. I’m at 14.50. Any help will be appreciated and taken into consideration. I worked hard for the degree now I need to put the degree to some type of use for me and my kid.

Cheap Car to get to and fro

Hey guys. I’m posting here because FB is full of spam these days. Is anybody selling a cheap car or have one that they know someone is selling? A little back story. I drive a 2010 Chevy and I was hoping to get one more year out of it but unfortunately it wants to go to car heaven. I’ve replaced 2k in parts over the last 6 months but now the headgasket is blown. I can’t keep pouring money into it but I can’t get a car loan right now because my mortgage qualification is in 2 weeks. I’m in the process of looking for a new career because I graduated in December but can’t switch jobs because of this dangon mortgage process but my DTI would be too high if I got one now. If you know of anything please send it my way.
