I am not from Houston but was recently admitted to a Masters program here. I'd like to know what kind of traits make Houston, well, Houston? Basically, I'd like to get excited for my potential move!

For a bit of background; I'm from the Midwest and have lived in Chicago, Kansas City and Milwaukee. Houston seems very appealing to me because A) I hate the cold, B) I love large cities with a thriving arts/culture scene and C) Houston has a great job market to tap into post-Masters.
