I recently got fined $105 for parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. The area I parked at does have a fire hydrant, but as seen from the picture the "no parking" sign is pointing towards the end of the curb, and the sign is placed closer to the end of the curb than the fire hydrant. So when I parked, I just saw the sign and was within the "allowed" parking area. I did not see the fire hydrant. There is also no red painting on the curb to indicate a no parking zone in front of the fire hydrant.

I'm wondering if I have any legal grounds to appeal the citation or if it's a waste of time.
