Houston for a young family

Hi everyone! Been a long time reddit observer but never posted anything until now.

Currently live in the south in one of the coastal cities and have an opportunity to move to Houston. Where we live is amazing, we are 10 mins from the beach and so far life is good. However, we cannot afford a house in a kid friendly neighborhood with lots of young families (we are 40 so young is relative I guess…). Reason for high cost of NY and East coast transplants moving down, you need ~700k for that kind of neighborhood in good school district

I have an offer to move to Houston with my company. Our approx. annual income would be between $150-$160k. We don’t have any debts.

Can you live with this kind of money in Houston and where would be those neighborhoods? School districts are very important as well as safety and things to do. Work would be close to the airport so I am assuming somewhere in the north side of town

I’ve only been there once for two days for work and liked the city in general but again it was work and I didn’t get to see much of it.

Many thanks in advance
