Has Reliant Energy ever tacked on a $40 "Broken Meter Seal" to your bill?

I was a reliant customer and then switched to another provider

MONTHS after I had already switched, Reliant tacked on a $40 charge to my account for a broken meter seal that apparently came from CenterPoint

This is impossible because

  • My meter seal was not replaced
  • I was not a reliant customer, so that charge would have gone to my new energy provider
  • I called CenterPoint and they knew nothing about it

Not only this, but I got nothing in the mail about the bill and it ended up getting send to collections

Has this even happened it anyone else? It seems very suspicious. I bet most people don’t look at the bill breakdown and assume they used more electricity that month.

In the end after talking with about 10 people at Reliant they said they couldn’t remove it because CenterPoint confirmed the charge. I asked them to conference in CenterPoint and they refused, I told them I would conference in CenterPoint and they said they can’t and would hang up. I submitted a PUC complaint and threatened to sue them, and then they called back saying CenterPoint confirmed it never happened (Despite confirming it did happen, apparently?)
