Public Comments on the Proposed Expansion of Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary

Information on the expansion

Public Comments close July 3rd so don’t wait

If you are a diver, know divers, fish in the gulf, or just care about our waters and sea life, please take 10 minutes to read through this page and submit comments in support of expanding the Flower Gardens. It is the only place you are going to see thriving coral near the TX gulf coast, and it is in constant danger due to water conditions, pollutants, and storms. Once it is gone, it’s gone.

The Gulf is 615,000 sq mi. The sanctuary is currently only 56 square miles, or 0.009%. The 2020 proposed expansion would add 13 additional small sites for a total area of 160 sq mi (0.025%). It’s not much but it is crucial to protect what’s left of these marine habitats.
