A total of 1,848 new cases of COVID-19 in Harris County were confirmed over the Aug. 22-23 weekend, but active cases in the county dropped by more than 3,000 over that time as other cases recovered.

Another 955 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Harris County on Aug. 20, including 501 cases in the city of Houston and 454 in Harris County outside of the city.

A wide variety of races at the federal, state and local level in the Cy-Fair area will be contested in elections this November.

As of Aug. 19, COVID-19 patients take up about 23.9% of the total beds in use.
