New Caney ISD received a “C” for the 2022-23 school year in the Texas Education Agency’s accountability ratings for school districts statewide.

Originally estimated to cost $70 million to build, Highlands Middle School is now expected to cost less than $60 million to construct, said Richard Ressler, director of facilities and planning for NCISD. 

Full-time New Caney ISD employees who are returning for the 2025-26 school year will receive a $1,000 retention incentive on their May 5 paycheck, district leaders said.

On May 8, Sunshine Pediatric Day Center—a day care and therapy center for medically complex children—will mark one year since opening.

Taqueria La Indomable—a food truck—is now open at The Food Zone in Porter.

On April 14, Klein ISD’s board of trustees approved $55.8 million in work for the remodels of two schools.

The Iron Island menu includes items such as Hawaiian-style teriyaki chicken, barbecued pork, macaroni salad and desserts including guava cake.
