Fort Bend County Libraries resumed its Books & More Curbside Pick-Up service May 4.

Despite innovating to provide online ordering during the coronavirus pandemic, Victor Litwinenko, the co-owner of Jupiter Pizza & Waffles Co., Guru Burgers and Bowls, and Japaneiro’s, said his restaurants have seen a 50%-70% decline in sales.

Fort Bend County reported 48 new, confirmed cases of the coronavirus on May 13, the highest single-day case count increase since May 5.

“Everything I have is because of this community—this county,” Alings owner Irfan Motiwala said. “What we are giving back is not much in comparison to what the country and the community has given us.”

Fort Bend County has reported a total of 1,404 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of May 12, including a total of 240 recoveries and 40 deaths.

Although Home Studio 6, a home decor and gift store in Missouri City, had to temporarily close in mid-March because of the coronaviru pandemic, the store reopened in early May as Gov. Greg Abbott eased business restrictions.

Previously, the district had announced that graduation ceremonies would take place over three days—July 19-21— at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land.

Fort Bend County saw 28 newly confirmed cases of the coronavirus over the May 9-10 weekend, according to county data released May 11.

While the move was originally set to occur in mid-March, staff at the office said permitting issues with the city of Sugar Land—not the coronavirus—are the reasons for the delay.
