Attic Conversion Contractor Recommendations

I am looking for a reputable contractor experienced with attic conversions. I am also interested in hearing experiences from those who have done an attic conversion. Did you need to use an architect or structural engineer? In hindsight, ar there things that didn't go according to plan or were unexpected complications?
