At the midway point of the season, how are we feeling about re-signing these players on expiring contracts?
Due to Nick Caserio's strategy of utilizing 1 and 2-year contracts, the Texans have quite a few players on the last year of their deal. While this question will be the most relevant at the end of the season, I wanted to see how we're all feeling about who we would want to re-sign not that roughly half the games have gone by. Here's the list of relevant guys on the last year of their contract:
OFFENSE
TE Dalton Schultz
T George Fant
RB Devin Singletary
WR Noah Brown
DEFENSE
DE Jonathan Greenard
DE Jerry Hughes
DT Sheldon Rankins
DT Maliek Collins
DT Hassan Ridgeway
LB Denzel Perryman
LB Blake Cashman
CB Steven Nelson
CB Shaquill Griffin
CB Tavierre Thomas
S Eric Murray
SPECIAL TEAMS
K Ka'imi Fairbairn
P Cameron Johnston
LS Jon Weeks
Of course, there's no way to keep everyone. On offense, Schultz has really broken out the last few games, so I'd like to see us attempt to retain him. I also wouldn't mind bringing Singletary back. On defense… yikes, that's a lot of free agents. This is likely Jerry Hughes' last year with us, and I'm a bit back and forth on Greenard. I'm fine with letting both of our starting DTs go, but I'd like to hold onto Ridgeway as good depth. Perryman will likely be out the door next year, but Cashman could get re-signed. As much as I'd like to keep Nelson, he may try to get one last good contract with someone else next year, so he may be let go. In terms of special teams, I'd like to see us bring that whole unit back, as they have been fairly reliable (when not injured). What do y'all think?
