Astros Draft Andrew Duncan
Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40
Duncan was a talented two-way player at Bishop McLaughlin High School outside of Tampa when he committed to Florida State. Since then, he’s transferred to A3 Academy, a baseball center that provides online classes for athletes, and he’s also made more of a step forward as an offensive player.
Once seen as potentially having the ability to pitch and play the outfield, at least in college, Duncan’s future now is as a position player. The right-handed hitter is super athletic and turns in plus run times, though he doesn’t always put that speed to good use on the basepaths. His bat has a ways to go, and his swing can get long, though scouts did see him take top pitching prospect Charlee Soto deep earlier this spring. There’s a ton of raw power for him to tap into if he can make enough contact to get to it.
Duncan’s speed should be an asset in center field as well, but like his offensive game, his defense is a bit raw, with work to be done on his reads and routes. He might be a bit of a project, but a team wanting to bank on an athlete with raw pop might be willing to try and sign him away from playing for the Seminoles.
