A patchy and underperforming Mariners team, after losing the first three games of the series to the Stros, has to face Gerrit Cole on his birthday. It is a Sunday day game in September, and all their motivation has been sucked out of them.

Cole steps on the gas, while the entire 2019 Astros offense explodes in the 3rd inning as they bat around the order and then some. This game set the franchise record for doubles, and the 3rd inning had four of them back-to-back. Yordan serves up 4 hits. Marisnick obliterates a baseball. Straw shows off his speed. Oh, by the way, Cole went 8 innings strong with 15 strikeouts, setting a new career mark in Ks. He was one random homer away from a perfect game bid.
