As a day one fan and native of Houston I am proud of this team regardless of how this season ends.
In 2002 the Houston Texans climbed out of buffalo bayou to beat the cowboys, "America's team". It wasn't significant to the Cowboys but it was significant to me. I'm old enough to have rooted for the Oilers in the playoffs and watched Bud Adams take our team away. Everyone in my school started to root for the Cowboys but I just wanted my team back. We never got them back. Instead we got a new team that didn't have a respected history, just a new nothing designed to be doomed to s**t mountain obscurity. I watched the first game with a pit in my stomach. I watched the subsequent years with even more trepidation. The truth is though, JJ is a legend. Matt Schaub was not good enough but still our best quarterback to date. DeMeco was there and a part of one of our best eras. I'm going too much into it here but honestly, we came from nothing. We have built a team that casual fans get to call garbage. I'm proud of that. We have a history. We have a soul. The Ravens will not always be in a position to big brother us. We are worthy of discussion beyond s**t mountain. I'm happy we all have this team to criticize and feel passionate about. I don't know where the nurse is with my next sponge bath, but this elder millennial is happy to have this team to hate or love or not care about.
