Ari Alexander reporting that OF Jacob Melton will likely be in a Dylan Cease package.

For me personally, I’d be hesitant to trade Melton even for Cease. He’s our CFer of the future & has way more upside than Meyers IMO…I actually like Melton’s defense more as well. Melton is a core piece of the “next wave” which extends our window that includes Cam Smith & Brice Matthews, etc. And we obviously know Dana loves Melton as he didn’t want to include him in any trade talks in 2023 & opted to include Drew Gilbert & Ryan Clifford instead of Melton. Yes, I absolutely love the idea of adding Cease…but I’m hesitant at the cost for a pure rental, even though it may help our chances of bringing Cease back in the offseason. I’d center the package for Cease around Walker Janek & Dezenzo personally if SD is interested. I’m so high on Melton that I’d actually be looking to move Meyers in the offseason & sell high on Jake, giving Melton the keys at the “8”. Interesting stuff, we’ll see what happens. One thing is for sure…if Melton is traded than we know the org is sky high on both Joseph Sullivan & Zach Cole as CF prospects since they’d be willing to part with Melton.
