Areas to rent and areas to buy

Hi everyone. I hope that this post is ok seeking advice. I am looking at a job opportunity to move to Houston. Initially hybrid but I would need an apartment and then maybe 6 months to a year I would move my family and see our house/buy new one. What I do not know are the areas to look at as you all have a pretty large city…

I would be mainly working around Greenbriar. I would consider buying a condo/apartment if close to things that would enable me to air b&b when not there as I would only be there a few days during the week. If not, I’d rent for 6 months-year. Somewhere easy and safe. Was looking at some cool places downtown but traffic may be a nightmare?

As for buying we would want somewhere with easy airport & i10 access to go east frequently. Would be looking in the 500k-750k range when that time comes.

Any advice for areas to look for short term and family planning would be hugely helpful. Oh and have a six year old so would need to be in a good school area. We are in private school right now as public schools aren’t great where we are so open to private again unless a top public school close by.
