Are others using AT&T plans experience slow network?

I use the $40 AT&T prepaid plan. I started driving like 2 days ago and on the freeways my navigation apps are either very slow (to update my location and tell me the turns) or just don't work at all. I reached out to AT&T and they said a few towers are in maintenance and will be fixed by 10/08. Anyone else on AT&T experience anything similar? Any advice on getting better network speed?
