Are job headhunters still a thing in Houston?

50ish mechanical engineer here, been out of the workforce for 15+ years due to role as expat trailing spouse and SAHM. Now those chapters in my life are closed and I want to get back into the professional world but it has been a challenge.

I've put myself out there on LinkedIn and applied to numerous positions in the past year and not getting any interest. I'm thinking my style of job search is outdated and I need more personal guidance. My resume could definitely use a glow-up, too.

Are headhunters still a viable option here? Or are there people who provide the services I described? I applied with a job agency but later learned they were more about skilled labor than professional jobs, so I'd like to be more discerning if going with another agency.
