Apartment Prices in June – Heights/Washington Ave Area

Back in June, I moved from out of state to work for a NASA contractor. Since I wanted to play it safe, I chose an apartment close to JSC. Now that I’ve made some friends and I’m newly single, I realized I made a big mistake for not considering the Heights/Memorial/Washington Ave area.

My initial thought was to just finish out my lease in June 2023 but I was told that’s when the average 1 bedroom apartment rent is typically $2000 a month in that area. If that’s the case, I might consider paying the fee to break my lease and move sometime early 2023. Right now I’m seeing places around $1200-$1500 a month.

For those of you that are familiar with the area, does about $2000 a month sound right for that area in June? I know May-August is typically when rent prices are at their highest but a huge markup like that seems odd.
