Apartment nightmare

I just moved into a new apartment. I’ve been here a total of 8 days and my ac went out. They are saying that because of the ships stranded out in the ocean that they don’t know when they would be able to fix it. They gave me a window unit in my bedroom only. Here’s what I’m concerned about. I’m female and live alone. They put the window unit in my bottom floor apartment in my bedroom and just covered the sides of the window unit with cardboard and insulation tape. That’s it. Doesn’t look too safe to me. And zero clue when my ac unit will actually get fixed. Is anyone else going through this?
