Anyone use their garage as a front porch of sorts?

According to the New York Times, in Houston, the garage is the new porch (link is a gift article). As someone who lives inside the loop in a tall skinny townhouse, I don’t have a porch, so this idea is pretty interesting to me. Anyone ever use their garage as a porch?
