Anyone moved to Houston from Chicago?

My mom’s been living in Houston for 5 years now and praises it everytime I fly over. I’m from Skokie, about 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. I love the lifestyle here. I’m close to 4-5 major shopping centers including like 3 nearby malls. Everything is of distance. Walgreens is 3 blocks away from me, Walmart is 5 minutes.

My mom stays on the border of Cypress and Houston, and I’m planning on transferring to University of Houston-Downtown to get my Criminal Justice Bachelors. I’m 21 years old, very outgoing. I love meeting new people and making friends with different types of people. My main interests are in cars. I’ve sold cars 2 years, I’ve worked on cars, raced cars, fixed cars. As a young adult, I’m just wondering how it is to make new friends especially moving to a whole different place, without knowing anyone but my mom. My main concern is just getting lonely while being in Houston. I like to go out, meet new people, hang out, chill, go to parties, car meets etc. Do you think Cypress is a good place for someone like me?

Oh, and how’s the weed over here. Huge pothead, I know it’s still an illegal state. Any ideas of when republicans are going to start smoking weed?

edit: In Chicago, there was a new law that passed where they won’t look into past marijuana use when running background checks for employment. Not sure if it’s applied to Texas, although I’m not sure if I will be taking my career to Texas or move back to Chicago. I’m only moving to Houston temporarily to help support my mom a little with getting a part time job while being in school with bills. Also looking to spend time with her before I go into my career. Maybe I’ll move back to Chicago, who knows. Also Off duty cops can smoke in New Jersey, hopefully Chicago goes that route 🙂
