Anyone know what that haze is in the air close to Katy?

My wife was driving towards Katy on I-10 several minutes ago and remarked that there was a gray haze in the air. She even said that when she got to Katy and out of the car that the air had the odor of something burnt – similar to a burned wood smell. I wondered if the cold air brought with it some smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Has anyone else seen the haze and, if so, do you know where it and the odor with it came from?
